15 Minutes
Over the years, I have some logged some time in front of the camera. My first time was during an ESPN televised Swatch Boardercross World Tour event that I was putting on at the Canyons Resort in Park City, UT. That was my first 20 seconds or so in the public eye en route to accumulating my 15 minutes. A few weeks ago, I went to Aspen, Colorado representing Salomon and Atomic at the Freeskier Ski Test. The test gives the magazine to try out next years product so they can include it as content and help people make decisions when buying skis. As part of the test, each manufacturer gives a short video introduction of their ski of choice.

Wall Street Journal – Ruby Mountain Heli-Experience
Part of the reason I traveled to Ruby Mountain Heli-Experience was to ski for a photo shoot which would support a Wall Street Journal Article. The article published on Friday and can be seen here. I’m in the middle wearing a green jacket in the lead photo for the article. If you click on the slideshow tab you can see me in photos # 1, 4 (green jacket in the middle) and 9.

I’m still stationed over in sunny Aspen, Colorado for the Freeskier Magazine ski test. The weather has been outstanding for skiing with your shirt off and was a balmy 45 degrees today. Ruby Mountain Heli-Experience
I’ve been slacking on the blog but keeping busy elsewhere. I skied in the Outside Magazine and Mountain Sports and Living ski test last week at Snowbird and pulled into Aspen last night. The crew at Salomon and Atomic sent me to America’s most expensive town to handle their test fleet of skis for the Freeskier Magazine ski test. All the tests which are occurring as we speak dictate the skis which will be featured in ski and outdoor magazines next year.
I wanted to pump out a quick post on what I’ve been up to and introduce my latest article which dropped on ESPN today. About a month ago I cruised to Nevada for a night to write an article on the only heli-skiing in Nevada. Myself and Jeff Skillern served as athletes for a photo shoot to supply images for a story the Wall Street Journal was working on about the Ruby Mountain Heli-Experience. Salt Lake Shootout
On Saturday myself and 4 other judges sat down to pick the winning portfolio for the Salt Lake Shootout. The Shootout is a four day photo contest where photographers ski one of the four Cottonwood Resorts (Alta, Brighton, Snowbird and Solitude) each day. At the end of the four days, they turn in a portfolio featuring their two best photos from each resort.
Judging was challenging as each of the seven photographers submitted photos worthy of publishing. The end result was finding the photographer who submitted the best eight photos. The contest would have been nearly impossible to judge had we needed to select the best overall image.

World Championship Halfpipe
I covered the FIS World Championship Halfpipe competition for ESPN on Saturday. It was my first true “news coverage” where the story needed to filed immediately following the event. The keys to be successful were to document the winning runs hit by hit and have quotes from the winners. I was fortunate to be surrounded by pro skiers in the bottom of the pipe who passed me the winning runs as it’s tough to call a pipe run. I was also able to sneak in and grab quick quotes from women’s winner Roz G and men’s winner Mike Riddle. I literally jogged back to the press room and filed my story before the winners sat down for their press conferences where the rest of the media would obtain their quotes. It was a good experience to be on deadline and knock out a story.
